Susan de Mont  08.01.61 – 03.01.16

For twenty-one years Susan was the indefatigable Treasurer of the Angel Association who saw it as her priority to look after the resources of members past and present and increase donations to local charities seeking our help. It was a job nobody else really wanted to undertake but it was a job Susan dedicated herself to as her way of contributing to the wellbeing of our community in St Peters Ward.

After arriving in the Ward back in March 1988 with her husband Alex, moving into a house in Elia Street, Susan fell in love with the local area, its history, amenities and wider society. But she knew our area beforehand through her father who had worked in customs and excise at the Royal Agricultural Hall long before it was transformed into the Business Design Centre. A good cook in her own right, Susan was always keen to try out new restaurants and cafes and then write reviews about them for TripAdvisor.

Susan ended her working career as a director of the city regulator, the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) towards the end of 2015 following the return of a secondary bowel cancer. She died at home with Alex and her younger sister, Catherine, in early January of this year, aged 54 years. A memorial bench bearing her name was subsequently placed in Colebrooke Row Gardens as a personal tribute to the affection in which she was held by many local residents.
