New boat for the canal

Angel Boat’s new boat

The Angel Boat (Angel Community Canal Boat Trust or ACCT) has added to its fleet! In addition to Angel II of Islington, well known to residents of Islington for many years, ACCT has now acquired a day boat, Long Tom, ideal for short trips along the Regent’s Canal from the base at City Road Lock.

We recognise that many of our customers and users will prefer the traditional style of Angel II but the new boat will provide better viewing and all-weather seating for its 12 passengers, and because of its shorter length will provide greater flexibility in trips on the Regent’s Canal.

Long Tom is named after a Regent’s Canal Company policeman recalled by an elderly local resident, and possibly also one of the Islington Tunnel keepers. The boat was bought from a mooring near Ormskirk, requiring an exciting winter trip by our skipper Phil and crew Emma via Liverpool docks, the M1 and the Grand Union Canal from Watford.

As always, both of our boats are available to book through our website at www.angelboat.org, where you will also find more information. Funding is available to ensure that trips are at a price that our users, whatever their age, can afford.

ACCT is a charity offering residential and day canal trips to the local community and relies financially on grants, donations, the support of Friends and contributions towards hire costs.
